Spring Training

It is in the fifties here in southern Vermont today. The roads are turning to the typical spring goo and I swear I smelled green grass in the breeze. It's a hallucination, of course. We're still in the dead of winter and this is surely a trick. The pitchers and catchers have reported for spring training in Florida and Arizona, but that doesn't mean it's time to put away the snow shovels. It's supposed to rain, freeze, and blow a gale later tonight. Just enough time to go outside and hallucinate some more.

Very nice...temps in Tacoma aren't expected to climb out of the 30's today. Tomorrow we're in for "Winter Freeze 2006"...Highs in the low 30s, lows in the teens! Too damn cold for the PNW if you ask me.

Go Mariners! Looking forward to catching their last Spring Training game against the Tacoma Rainiers at Cheney Stadium on April 1st. Tickets for that event sold out in 15 minutes...Hey! Cheney only seats 9,000 people.

Way too cold for there. We lived in Gig Harbor from 98-03 and I just loved the weather there in the spring. Last year we were visiting there this time of year and it was in the seventies. There is no such thing as strange weather anymore.

Here in Homer, the temperatures have been so warm that the top layer of snow has already melted, leveled off, and become that solid sheet of ice. Last night when I went out to the car to head to the grocery store, I got to my car door, reached for and pulled the handle, all before I actually stopped walking.... and nearly pulled myself up underneath my own damned car, in my own damned driveway. I didn't have any leverage. Then I couldn’t stop laughing. Worst part was that there wasn’t a soul around to see it.

Annette, this supports my theory described in the Wait, Wait post last month that laughter is a reflex reation to impending doom. This global warming era ahead of us should be a regular hoot.
